Allied Health ASsistance (AHA)

About Allied Health Assistance

Allied Health Assistants (AHAs) are trained team members who support speech pathology therapy under the supervision of a qualified speech pathologist.

At Be Vibrant Speech Pathology, AHA sessions are:

  • Planned by your speech pathologist
  • Focused on practising therapy goals
  • Closely supervised and regularly reviewed
  • Designed to support progress between speech sessions

AHAs do not replace speech pathology. They provide extra practice to help skills stick.

Who are our AHAs?

Our AHAs are trained support staff, often studying allied health, education or caring for children, who work directly under the guidance of the speech pathologist.

Dos and Dont's

What do AHAs do?

  • Practise goals already set by the speech pathologist
  • Support repetition, confidence, and carryover
  • Run structured, goal-focused practice sessions

What AHAs do not do

  • Assess or diagnose
  • Set or change goals
  • Make clinical decisions

All clinical responsibility remains with the speech pathologist.

Who is AHA support a good fit for?

AHA support is ideal for clients who:

  • Benefit from repetition and practice
  • Are working on established goals
  • Need support between speech pathology sessions

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Will my child still see a speech pathologist?
Yes. Your speech pathologist remains responsible for assessment, goal setting, supervision, and review.

How are AHA sessions billed?
AHA sessions are billed as Allied Health Assistance.
Costs and billing details are always discussed and agreed upon before AHA sessions commence.

Do I have to use AHA sessions?
No. AHA support is optional and only recommended when it is clinically appropriate.

Will my child see the same AHA each time?
Where possible, yes. We aim for consistency, but all AHAs follow the same therapy plans and supervision processes.

How do AHAs communicate progress?
AHAs provide feedback to your supervising speech pathologist after sessions, and progress is reviewed regularly.

Is AHA support right for my child?
Your speech pathologist will guide this decision based on your child’s goals, learning style, and therapy needs.
